DEFY Brands is an impact branding and communications agency. Founded by Suni Sekhon, this women-owned B Corp and social enterprise has a mission to discover people and businesses that are willing to challenge the status quo and redefine what's possible.
Through its services, the agency helps other businesses delve deeper and examine their purpose. DEFY is always seeking true impact-makers with whom it can unlock the potential of meaningful collaboration.
How Grow London Local helped Suni
DEFY Brands has grown organically, but Suni feels they could be growing faster with the right connections. Though she devotes a lot of her time networking, her efforts don't always convert into revenue for the business.
Suni worked with Grow London Local Business Support Manager Kristen Montalvo to identify ways to expand the business.
Kristen directed Suni to several organisations and programmes that support diverse small businesses in London. Suni is currently participating in a programme offered by OneTech and working with a business coach.

Tell us about your business.
Hi. My name's Suni Sekhon. I'm the founder of DEFY Brands. We're an impact-centric branding and communication agency.
I started DEFY Brands in 2021. I wanted to create a creative services agency where more women are at the forefront and creating brands that really do advance society and regenerate the environment.
What's a challenge you face as a business owner?
We grew internationally. We have clients all around the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and we've seen great organic growth. Our challenge has been having a presence in the United Kingdom, particularly London.
How were you introduced to Grow London Local?
Through Grow London Local, we were introduced to OneTech, who are a catalyst for inclusion, helping ethnic minority founders.
I participated in their Amplify Venture programme, which helped me to create, after several weeks, a growth strategy and approach to combating our challenge of our presence in London.
How has Grow London Local helped your business?
The largest point of support for me has been the networking – being able to meet the right people.
Second to that, putting me in contact with people who can help me develop my business on a side of things that I have absolutely no idea about, that I can develop my marketing strategies with.
Having someone point me in that direction and then those people helping me out as part of the programme was great. It was amazing.
What advice would you give other small business owners in London?
Think a bit more about your own sustainability, your own environmental governance and how some of those benefits would really attract new customers in the public sector or even the private sector.
