Nowadays, it's becoming more and more important to leverage the power of social media to boost your sales. In fact, it's a necessity for business growth.

Social media is huge; it's a place where you can connect with potential customers, engage with them and ultimately drive sales.

If you're looking to sell more through social media, here are the steps you must follow to succeed.

Boosting sales via social media

1. Understand your audience

Understanding your ideal customer is possibly the single most important thing when it comes to selling through your social media.

As humans, we can naturally adapt when we're in-person and selling. But on social media, this is simply not possible.

If you posted trying to attract someone slightly different one day, you would put off the person from the day(s) before! So, it's important you only speak to one type of person to get the biggest sales from social.

Take understanding your ideal client to the next level by not just understanding their demographics but also their behaviours, preferences and challenges. Use this information to adapt your content and posts to resonate with them.

2. Choose the right platforms

Just like people, not all social media platforms are the same. And no-one spends every day on every social media platform.

Once you know who your ideal client is, make sure you know where they spend their time. For example, if you're targeting professionals and businesses, LinkedIn might be more effective for you, as opposed to platforms like Instagram or Snapchat.

3. Optimise your profiles

Let's say you've created the perfect piece of content for your audience. It's getting brilliant reach and great engagement, even driving people to your profile on social media.

But then your profile doesn't resonate with your ideal client, so you get no followers and, therefore, no sales.

What you need to include in your bio is not just who you are, but also who you help (once again, something else that means you need to know your ideal client!)

Another couple of tips around your profile is to use relevant keywords for your ideal client to help your discoverability and also to be consistent across all the platforms you use. Use the same imagery and similar (if not the same) information.

4. Craft engaging and consistent content

Content is king in the world of social media. It's your content that will determine whether someone follows you, considers your services and buys from you or not.

Posting consistently (not constantly) fabulous content that you know your audience wants to see will help you unequivocally reach your business growth and sales goals.

5. Engage with your audience

Engagement is key to building a loyal customer base. Respond promptly to comments, messages and mentions, encourage conversations, ask questions and seek feedback to foster a sense of community and trust.

One of the best tools on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, when it comes to increasing engagement, is to use stories.

Think about your behaviour on these platforms – do you scroll a little through the search/inspiration feed, then spend most of your time on stories, getting into what people have to say there? I thought so. Therefore, this is your place to shine and show your excitement for what you have to offer.

6. Know what works

Regularly monitor the performance of your social media efforts using the analytics tools provided by the platforms themselves.

Look at the numbers like reach, engagement, conversion rates, follows and playtime (meaning how long people watch your reel) and adjust your strategy and content based on the insights gained to optimise what you create in the future.

Key takeaways

Mastering social media sales involves a strategic approach that encompasses understanding your audience, creating engaging and consistent content and analysing performance.

By following these steps and continuously adapting your strategy, you can sell more of your products and achieve success in the wonderful world of social media.
